Types and standards of Rubber Fender

Fenders, also known as fenders, are energy buffering devices used on port docks or ships to slow down the impact or shock of ships and docks or ships and ships when they are berthing or mooring, so as to protect ships and docks from damage.

Rubber fenders have the characteristics of good elasticity, high energy absorption, convenient maintenance, long service life and easy mass production, etc., and are widely used in Japan, Europe, America and Southeast Asian countries. The rubber fender can not only protect the ship and the wharf, but also reduce the horizontal load acting on the wharf, improve the berthing capacity of the wharf, make the new wharf light and reduce the cost.

Rubber fenders come in a wide range of sizes. It is easier to choose matching vulcanization equipment for regular size products, but the investment in large vulcanization equipment required for oversized products is too high, especially when the product batch is small, it is not cost-effective to invest in large vulcanization equipment.

Floating rubber fender is a new type of fender equipment. Compared with solid rubber fender, its main features are: large compression deformation, large energy absorption, small reaction force, self-floating, easy installation, etc. It is usually used in ship-to-ship (ship-to-ship), ship-to-wharf (ship-to-wharf) barge, berthing and other occasions; due to its self-floating characteristics, it is also especially suitable for installation on wharfs with large tidal changes. Among them, the filled rubber fender is especially suitable for applications in harsh environments, such as offshore drilling platforms, due to its advantages of maintenance-free and long life.

1) Cylindrical rubber fender:

Features Low reaction force, small surface pressure, reasonable energy absorption; strong adaptability to ship roll and pitch when berthing, not affected by ship size, wide application, easy installation and maintenance, especially suitable for old-fashioned docks.

2) Semicircular (Type D) rubber fenders:

Features The reaction force is moderate, and the energy absorption is higher than that of the cylindrical type; the installation is more convenient; due to the small width of the bottom, it is especially suitable for the installation of frame type docks and ship sides.

3) DO type rubber fender:

Features The energy absorption of the reaction force is higher than that of the D-type fender; the installation strength and service life are greatly improved compared with the D-type fender; it is suitable for the frame type wharf.

Arched (V-shaped) rubber fender: Features Moderate reaction force, high energy absorption; firm and convenient installation;

4) DA type rubber fender:

Features It has the characteristics of high energy absorption and low reaction force; the product has higher stress dispersion and long service life; the front-end defense plate can reduce the surface pressure; complete specifications and various installation methods; easy to replace.

5) Drum type Anti-collision Fender:

Features Low reaction force, large energy absorption; surface pressure below 25 tons/m2; small reduction in mechanical properties of inclined compression; Π-type rubber fender: Features Low reaction force, large energy absorption; easy installation; generally suitable for large and medium-sized wharves

The industry standards adopted by solid rubber fenders are "HG/T 2866-2016 Rubber Fenders" and "GB/T 21537-2008 Tapered Rubber Fenders".

The domestic industry standard for inflatable rubber fenders is "CB-T 3948 Marine Inflatable Rubber Fenders" rubber fenders and the international ISO standard ISO17357: 2002 "High pressure Floating pneumatic rubber fenders". The filled floating rubber fender is a new product, and there is no international standard or industry standard yet.
